Congratulations to Scott Atherton on his appointment to the Leadership Council for Duke Law School’s Bolch Judicial Institute. The Institute provides unique educational opportunities for sitting judges, including through its flagship Master’s in Judicial Studies LLM program. The Institute’s overall mission is to promote the rule-of-law, judicial independence, and law reform through research, innovation and civic education initiatives.
Among the Institute’s current initiatives is its Defending the Judiciary program. Through this program, the Institute is leading a non-partisan national effort to mobilize the legal profession to defend judges and the judiciary from a growing wave of unjust attacks that threaten judicial independence and diminish public faith in our court system. Judges are ethically prohibited from speaking about the cases assigned to them, and therefore they cannot speak out in their own defense. But bar associations, lawyers and others can speak out to defend the judiciary, educate the public on how our court system works, and strengthen judges’ ability to independently fulfill their duties without fear, intimidation, or misinformation.
Please consider getting involved in this critical cause. For more information about the Bolch Judicial Institute, and how you can get involved, please contact Scott Atherton or click here: https://lnkd.in/e9VJUKr8/
