The Judicial Conference of the United States has authorized the appointment of a full-time United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Florida at West Palm Beach, Florida. This appointment will succeed the incumbent, U.S. Magistrate Judge Dave Lee Brannon, who recently passed away and will be greatly missed. Scott Atherton was appointed by the Court to serve as Chair of a Panel consisting of ten lawyers and non-lawyers who are responsible for reviewing all applicants and recommending to the Judges of the District Court the five persons considered best qualified to fill this position. The Judges of the District Court will then ultimately select the applicant they believe is best qualified to serve.
